We are seeking an experienced and passionate Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to join a dynamic team in Whangarei, part of the Te Whatu Ora Te Tai Tokerau health network.

This exciting opportunity offers a variety of clinical duties, including inpatient care, outpatient services, surgical procedures, and teaching responsibilities. This role will also involve working with a supportive team to deliver high-quality care to the people of Northland, with a strong focus on equity and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acute Inpatient Care: Provide direct patient assessment and treatment to obstetrics and gynaecology patients at Whangarei Hospital when on-call. Conduct daily ward rounds and supervise RMOs.

  • On-Call Roster: Participate in an on-call roster with other O&G Consultants in a collegial and equitable manner.

  • Outpatient Services: Provide antenatal and gynaecology services at Whangarei Hospital and rural hospitals across Northland.

  • Surgical Procedures: Undertake obstetric and gynaecological surgical procedures in Whangarei Hospital’s operating theatres and other healthcare facilities across Northland.

  • Patient Referrals: Take responsibility for referring patients to appropriate services within or outside Te Whatu Ora Te Tai Tokerau.

  • Supervision & Training: Supervise and mentor RMOs when on-call, in outpatient clinics, and in the operating theatre.

  • Digital Health: Actively engage in the adoption and practice of digital health delivery as part of your role.

About You:

We are looking for a skilled and compassionate professional with the following qualifications and experience:

  • FRANZCOG or equivalent qualification.

  • Eligible for Vocational Registration in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with the New Zealand Medical Council.

  • Completion of vocational training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

  • Ability to work independently at the Consultant level.

  • A special interest and/or skill in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

  • Previous experience at Consultant level in Obstetrics and Gynaecology within New Zealand is preferred.

  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in a health setting.
